PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
